Temps have gotten into the 80’s the last couple of days and what little snow melt remains is keeping the Upper Sac at 400cfs, my favorite flow. Best take advantage now of these flows, who knows where they will be later in the year. The big fish are still prevalent so your chances of getting into one of the rivers quality fish remains. With the warmer temps now the dinks are showing themselves too so expect to get into either a big tug or a wiggle. Both are exciting and will warm your little cockles. I am finding fish in the rollers and the classic runs, weight is important to get the bugs down, so don’t shy away from more rather than less. Dry fly fishing hasn’t really kicked into gear yet but with this warm spell you might think about getting out in the evening.

Over on the McCloud the flows are pathetic, Ah Di Nah is only running at 205cfs. If this continues it is going to be a long season on this classic river. To not discourage y’all it’s such a magical river that time spent on it is chicken soup for the soul. Caddis and Mayflies are starting to appear and the Golden Stones along with Salmon Flies will start showing here soon so get your big Chubbys and Stimmies ready for the big show.
